"How's Work?"

Since the essence of my blog is my life as a Polkadotty Mum, I thought I would share the blog I wrote for our Polkadots.co.nz blog today... since its all about being a Polkadotty Mum!

Quite often, we, (The Polkadots) find ourselves being asked, “How is work going?”. We then find ourselves looking blankly at them and then thinking out loud will say, “Work? I don’t work”. People then go on to clarify and say “How are The Polkadots going?” to which we respond “Oh, Polkadots! Polkadots is going great!”

Don’t get me wrong, its not that doing everything Polkadotty isn’t hard work, but the way we see it, everything we do with or for Polkadots is just an extension of what we are trying to do as mothers. We work really hard to make sure that whatever we do, Polkadots or not, that it is going to make us all better mums.

When we are writing songs, we write them with the children and depending on how they respond to the song tells us whether its a keeper or not. When we are coming up with activity ideas to go along with our songs we try them out with our children first. When we are trying to get scripting down for our next big show, the children will get mini shows of their very own. We LOVE making learning exciting for our children and we would be doing all these things whether we were Polkadots or not, so it’s especially great that we can share it with all the other mums out there who want to be the best mums they can be as well.

The Polkadots Entourage (A little while back now. . . there are now two more on the way)

The Polkadots Entourage (A little while back now. . . there are now two more on the way)

So, although life can be pretty full on as a Polkadot, its a life where we get to sing all the time. We get to dance (workout) nearly every day of the week. We get to learn amazing things about our world, and play alongside our children where imaginations are the controlling factor. We are showing our children how we are using our talents and developing new ones. That’s our work.

Ashton's First Purchase

I have been trying to get Ashton to understand the concept of money and buying things, so today Ashton made his very own purchase and it was all very exciting! For him and ME! ha ha.

We got the money out of his piggy bank and I told him he could choose one car. He was very quick to choose a 63 Blue Mustang Convertible (his daddy rather likes Mustangs so I'm sure he will be pleased with his selection.) I gave him the amount that he needed and when I told him it was time to buy it at the counter he got all official and serious! It was the cutest thing.

Normally Ashton won't hand money over to anyone, he just likes to hold it, but he promptly handed it over and although he wasn't willing to hand the car box over to be scanned he was happy to hold it out so that the lady could scan it by lifting up the scanner. He then took his receipt and said "Ank u". He was so pleased with himself and his new car, he held it all day and was very excited to show daddy when he got home!

Farewell to our Allie

Over this past year we were very lucky to have Allie become a part of our Polkadot family as our extra hands to help us with watching the children while were doing all things Polkadotty. Since Allie came to us from California, she would only be with us for a year. Well the year came and went so quickly and it seemed all too soon that we were organising her farewell.

So, although we were all very sad to see Allie going, we wanted to make sure she left us with a smile on her face and remembering all of the wonderful things that make kiwi's kiwi. We threw her "The Ultimate Kiwi Farewell." We got dressed up in things that kiwi, we ate food that is considered kiwi and some even ended up watching the rugby during our kiwi party, cause apparently thats what kiwis do.

Our Waka Blonde - Allie, with our Buzzy Bee - Ashton!
Our staunch resident All Black - My hunk a spunk Husband!
Ashton with his extremely talented Grandma who just whipped up his costume that afternoon.
Our very own Miss New Zealand Princess - Ashton's Cousin Brookie
(These two thought that they should be in every photo!)
So kiwi - Me with the Polkadot Carly! bahahahah!
And me in dressed as Marmite
(My costume was lovingly painted by my ever so talented father... that afternoon!)
My cute little kiwi family!
Allie! We are going to miss you so much, thanks for being such a great Polkadot Nanny! We couldn't have got through this last year without you! California... you're lucky to have her back!

Beach Speed Way

I love getting new ideas from friends. . . and today Jane and Darcy shared a super idea with Ashton and I that I just had to share. . . A beach speed way!!!

Ashton and I love going to the beach to build sand castles and visit all of the dogs going for a walk, but never have we thought to take a few cars and make a speed way. Since Ashton is totally all about cars, trucks and anything that falls into the category of transport at the moment, this was right up Ashton's alley!

The speed way consisted of a tunnel, a ramp, roads sealed with shells, starting flags, and driftwood barriers! Totally awesome. I just can't wait to go back to the beach and make another one!

Thanks Jane and Darcy for another awesome play date and another fantastic activity idea! We're going to have to step up our creativity game! ha ha.

We LOVE Public Holidays!

We LOVE public holidays because we get an extra day to play with Daddy!!! With no set plans on the calendar, we had an open day to do whatever we wanted. So, despite the rather grey and damp weather, we decided to head to the bike park.
As you can see . . . Ashton was pretty excited!
Although this wasn't an outing to any special Auckland attraction, it was the first time we have been able to take Kris to the bike park and Ashton just loved playing on the playground with both of us. Plus it was nice to just simply spend time together.
Ashton just wanted to do everything that Daddy tried to do. . . so we had a family climb up the rope pyramid!
We managed to have our picnic just as the rain was starting to come down. It was a lovely morning out together as a family!

Productive Water Play

We still love to do dancing dishes on a regular basis, but for Ashton it has become more of a time for water play! He gets so fixated on pouring and filling, and as I clean a dish, he takes it for his water collection. I can now not do the dishes without him wanting to help out.

What I love most about Ashton's busy water play is, he can't help but have a little boogie while he tips and pours! Too cute!

I love this photo, you can really see how much water goes EVERYWHERE!

It's tough work cleaning or playing with dishes... got to stop for a drink!

You Win Some... You Loose Some

Ashton and I were very excited for our play date with his friends Laela and Darcy at Snow Planet today. Although Ashton had no idea what I was talking about when I said "Snow" he could tell he should be excited about it because of the way I was talking. Well, a part from the fact that Ashton and Laela loved playing in the play corner in the restaurant there (all ways look at the positives first!) The whole playing in the snow part of the day was an epic FAIL! bahahaha! You've just got to laugh really!

From the second we walked through the door my two charges were not keen on the idea! They pretty much cried the whole time and just wanted out! Jane and I did try very hard to show them how much fun it was (Darcy was having a ball!) we couldn't convince them otherwise.

We did get a turn on the tabogen and I jumped off the snow pile a few times, but thats about it. So we headed for the doors and the second they could tell we were leaving, they were all smiles! Oh well, you got to try it to know! Come what may. . . and love it! . . . we had a great play in the kids corner and I got some funny photos!
We haven't even got into the snow area yet...

My cute little snow bunnies!

Mum... why am I so cold!

We found a little posie up on the wall where Laela was happy for a few seconds!

Our one and only toboggan run! Wahoo!!!

At least Jane and Darcy had a good time!
Love you guys!

Jane working her best to turn that frown into a smile!

Happy once again now that he's out of the snow!

At least they enjoyed the play area.
